Mert Mirly and The Rhythm Steppers, a well known band, was the starting point for several musicians. Charlie Thurman, guitarist, who later went on to play for Nashville artist Red Sovine, and a host of others, Billy Swan, keyboard player, Erving Waddlington, keyboard player Jerry Bass, bass guitar player, and a young Fred Horrell on Bass Guitar and vocalist.
